OS: Throwback Thursdays v3.0

Posted by thekidLEGEND - July 3, 2008

Looking at my rollie, its about that time…
OnSMASH and Miss Info are back on another Throwback Thursday with that classic dish youve been craving for all week. This time it comes from the legendary Stretch Armstrong with Freestyle Frenzy Vol 1. First introduced in 1994, Stretch combined freestyles from his radio show on 89.9 during the years 1992-1994 and featured classic drops from Big L, Nas, Mobb Deep, Method Man & Ghostface, Blackmoon, Common & many more. This tape captures the essence of freestyle sessions from various artists who showcased their skill through rhymes. Ahh, the Golden Age…

This show still exists . . . sorta. Timm See and Sucio Smash carry on the Stretch and Bob tradition on 89.9 WKCR on Squeeze radio. Here’s a link to the show http://www.squeezeradio.podomatic.com

    Lots of ill stuff!

The terminology though…I think “the golden age” usually refers to the era before this right? Like 86, 88, 88, that whole Juice Crew/BDP/Rakim/PE/Stet era? And Old Skool…that’s like pre Run-DMC. 70’s stuff, early 80’s. THe 90’s were not the old skool era.

1994 = one of the best years. I’m not saying 1994 or 1992 or 1996 weren’t good years. I’m just sayin tho, I thought 1985-1989 or something like that was what was referred to as the golden age. THe name Golden Age, not “the best age” according to my taste or anyone elses. Get it?
