Janelle Monae - Metropolis (Suite I: The Chase) EP

I don’t know if you ever felt the Holy Ghost, but that’s the only feeling you’re going to feel tonight,” said an excited Combs as he introduced Monae before a full house.

“This is possibly the most important signing of my career,” Combs continued. “I thank God for blessing me with an artist like Janelle Monae. Now, are y’all ready to go to church?”

Janelle will release her debut in four suites. This volume, The Chase, being the first. Expect a new one every couple months until she releases the complete LP, Metropolis in September. Check it out & tell us what you think about this first installment.

Janelle Monae releases the first suite of the epic story, Metropolis, her debut album, titled The Chase. Metropolis is a concept album, a futuristic take on 1927’s silent film, Metropolis, by Fritz Lang. Monae, who has worked with on the acclaimed Idlewild album from OutKast, as well as Big Boi’s Got Purp, Vol. 2, has taken a new approach to releasing her album, in the form of suites. The Wondaland Arts Society will release a suite every three months, and a full length LP after each suite is released. The material from her debut is exciting and very high-energy, and is definitely a breath of fresh air.
