    The Week OnSMASH [5.18.08]

    Sunday, May 18th, 2008

The end of the week has arrived, and it ended with the Cavs losing to the Celtics in game 7. Shoutout to Lebron for putting up such an incredible fight. Who would have thought Pierce was gonna show up today? MTV showed up with their “Hottest MC’s” list this week too and it seems like everyone has their opinions on it. Nas made his rounds all through the press this week as well. Word is he changed the title of his album, i guess we’ll see what happens. Remy Ma got the news that shes gonna be property of the state of New York for 8 years and even the ‘victim‘ of the shooting was making her rounds on the radio. At least she didnt skip out on hospital bills like DMX did. Dissapointingly, rappers cant even co-sign their own albums anymore, while everyone is so caught up with the Suge knockout guy. Enjoy your 15 seconds of fame kid.

On the music side of things, Lloyd Banks came up short from the Top 5 but he made the cut for heat this week. N.E.R.D. hit us with a crazy remix and Lil Wayne got autotuned out of the biggest smash of the year and his own remix, by the hottest MC in the game, Kanye West.

Our prayers go out to Justo and his family. This week marked 3 years since his tragic passing. We will always remember.

    Air Jordan 7 (VII) – Olympics 2008

    Friday, May 16th, 2008

Here is an exclusive look at the Air Jordan 7 (VII) – Olympics 2008. Jordan Brand is set to release another color-way of the Air Jordan 7 (VII), which is part of their Olympic Celebration Pack. Supposedly, the artwork design featured on the sneaker was inspired by a Barcelona artist named Miro. Everything, including the color scheme, all draw ties from the 1992 Olympic Games. They are set to release in Barcelona on July 5th, and will release worldwide about a month later. They will retail for $175. What do you think about this color-way?

    Daily SMASHup [5.16.08]

    Friday, May 16th, 2008

When blood’s raw, its blue correct? Regardless, we got that triple dose of raw blood for SMASHup today to hold you over for the weekend. Jean Grae strikes us with a love thirsty remix with Busta Rhymes, thats oh soo smooth. Ol girl always gets it in like ohhhh (word to Grafh). Swizzy shouldnt be asking where the cash at though, Foxy should. All those court fees got her backed up, and she cant even cosign her album. As bonus, Mic Terror gives us the C version of Mazzi’s lesson/experiments and Immortal Technique, Ras Kass & Diabolic ask for a little payback from those in the oval office. Revenge is like the sweetest joy next to getting p*ssy…

Young Jeezy named #8 for MTV’s Hottest MC List

    Friday, May 16th, 2008

    Young Jeezy

    Why He’s Hot
He can dominate the show on a posse cut with some of his most mic-savvy peers, then successfully facilitate requests from mainstream mainstays like Mariah Carey and Usher, who call him to sanctify their #1 albums and songs with his seamless street swagger. Young Jeezy is at his pinnacle. Don’t misconstrue the ranking: He’s #8 with a bullet. We fully expect the Atlanta hustler to rank higher next time. After the release of USDA’s LP Cold Summer in mid-2007, Mr. 17.5 shut down publicly to work on his top-secret third album and “count all that money.”

Even with a break, the ‘hood’s loyalty toward him has remained, and when he re-emerged on records like Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know” remix and Rick Ross’ “Luxury Tax,” it was evident he was setting himself up for a run at the crown. His placements of late — the actual songs he’s chosen to get on — have been flawless, ranging from chart hits to club anthems. The Snowman’s rhyme-dispensing on these records has also been stellar. He’s improving as a lyricist, and he has so much swag that you can tell he’s inspired a whole brood of new southern MCs to bite his style.

Andre 3000 named #9 for MTV’s Hottest MC List

    Thursday, May 15th, 2008

    Andre 3000

    Why He’s Hot
No album, no single, only two guest appearances — Andre did even less this year than he did in 2007. There’s not even a handful of verses to judge him on. Should the Hip-Hop Brain Trust members be found guilty of treason for giving Andre a slot in the top 10 despite minimum output?

    Absolutely not.

Tres Stacks has illustrated natural bravura over brainless bravado, dropping judiciously dope couplets laced with gentlemanly swagger that brew to a crescendo and shed every note in their way.
