Michael Vick Conditionally Reinstated

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has conditionally reinstated quarterback Michael Vick today, which will allow him to participate in team practices and meetings, but not games. Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 of the NFL season (October 18th). Vick was suspended from the NFL after admitting his involvement in a dog fighting ring in 2007, which he served 23 months in prison for. The Atlanta Falcons have relinquished their contractual rights with him and he is free to sign with any team.
Ron Artest Is Officially A Laker

The Los Angeles Lakers signed free agent forward Ron Artest today, who will take in less money than he could have gotten somewhere else. This puts the Lakers in a good position to reach the NBA Finals for a third straight year. His new jersey number, chosen by a fan, honors the record number of weeks Michael Jackson’s Thriller was #1 on the charts (37).

In every odd-numbered year in the past decade, the San Antonio Spurs have went all the way to the Western Conference Finals, and most of the time they’ve won it and went on to win the NBA Championship. This year, they find themselves down 2-1 in a best of 7 series against their cross-state rivals the Dallas Mavericks, losing last night in dramatic fashion 88-67. No player on the team scored more than 12 points(boxscore). Are the Spurs showing signs of age? Can they bounce back and make it to the second round?
