A dude named David Bergman used a device known as a gigapan imager to take 220 pictures of Obamas inauguration which link together to form an incredibly large and detailed picture. He has put it up onto his website to allow everyone to zoom in and look around the crowd and the surroundings. Go and take a look, the detail you get when you zoom in and the distance you can see is remarkable, see the face of anyone in the crowd. People on engadget have found P.Diddy, Denzel Washington, Tom hanks, Aretha Franklin and some snipers in the windows.

Engadget also reports that “Apple’s now sold well over 10M iPhone 3Gs on top of beating its goal of 10M total iPhones in 2008″. I can’t wait to see what new devices apple come out with in 09. Also how many of you are using Macbooks ?

The Tima Watch, by French designer Julien Bergignat, is just another example of why more things should be made utilizing e-paper. It’s a simple, sleek watch that tells you what you need to know about the date and time in either digital or analog, and looks damn good doing it. We especially like how big the watch face is, and there’s just something cool and retro about the pixel-blocks that make up the numbers and hands.

It really is a shame the Tima is just a concept at this time or I’d probably be picking one up for myself. Via. GizmoAve.com

2009 is a new year for Motorola. The firm’s sales are tracking down, the RAZR might be dead – hopefully – but these four upcoming phones look uncharacteristically good. Little is known beside about the mobiles besides what can be gathered from the pics. The branding indicates that they are Verizon-bound and at least three of the four are touchscreens. And none of the phones have the dumb RAZR-ish names. Each one, including the Flash above, has a normal, fully-spelled product name. Hopefully these devices will breath new life into the dying mobile phone maker. We only have one question, though? Any of these powered by Google’s Android?

First, the bad news: you can’t power your laptop from the solar panels on the Voltaic Generator solar laptop bag. I know, it sucks. But the good news is, you can use the solar panels on this messenger bag to charge you laptop, and all the rest of your electronic crap, anywhere it isn’t dark, for free, over and over, for the next 5 billion years or so at which point the sun will enter a red giant phase and swallow the earth and the ambient surface temperature around here will probably exceed the safe operating limits of your gadgets. Via. GizmoAve.com

Until that all happens, though, you can enjoy the 15 watt output of the rugged solar panels on the Voltaic Generator, which is pretty significant. It’s enough to recharge a “standard” (read: 1-3 hour) laptop battery in about 5 hours of full sunlight, or boost the runtime of your laptop by somewhere between 20 and 45 minutes per hour of sunlight. An hour of sunlight is also enough to fully charge most cell phones, MP3 players, and small digital cameras. If you don’t have anything in dire need of charging, the Generator comes with an internal 58 watt hour lithium ion battery that can be charged from the solar panels, giving you a way to charge your gadgets at night. And if all else fails, you can cheat, and charge the battery pack with a wall plug or car adapter.

The Voltaic Generator comes with about a million adapters for electronics, and is available now in a few different colors for a not insignificant $499.

Christmas is coming, and Christmas is coming, and as the goose is worried about her job prospects in the downturn, Nokia has decided to increase its efforts in the budget phone sector. If you’re not keen on the fantastic Nokia 6300, the 7210 Supernova might fit the bill. It costs about £98 SIM-free from the Nokia shop and will hopefully come out soon on a pay as you go contract.

Boasting a slim casing and colourful details with an 80s vibe, this is a stylish phone that’s not ashamed to rock some electric blue or pink. The 7210’s interface is simple and easy to use, with large icons and straightforward features — it’s no iPhone, but it’s not trying to be. Via. GizmoAve.com

There’s an FM radio, a 2-megapixel camera (no flash), an expandable memory slot that can hold up to 2GB, and a 2.5mm headphone jack, which is annoying, since it means you’ll have to buy special headphones or use the ones in the box. Web access is restricted to GPRS, so don’t expect lightning speed.

While we’re not overwhelmed by this simple little phone it’ll fit comfortably in your pocket and it does what it says on the tin. Some users may find the keypad a little flat, but with some practice you do get used to it. Considering the lack of high-end features we hope to see the price come down next year. Expect a full review soon.

As someone who uses multiple screens when I’m working (or playing games) the idea of having a laptop with some extra screen space as portable as the unit itself is really exciting. Sure, that extra space would come in the form of folding, side-mounted monitors that have a break before the main screen — annoying for some — but some extra, segmented workspace on a portable platform is music to my ears.

And portable the triBook is: the conceptual rendering, picked up by Mac|Life, calls for a notebook that’s 10 inches wide and a little over six inches long.
The MacBook Air is about as sexy as a notebook gets. Just try pulling one out in a crowd. First comes the oohing, and then the ahhing, and then—sorry, but yes—the borderline-inappropriate fondling. There’s just something about the Air’s katana-thin profile that demands hands-on attention. People need to touch it, and open it, and prove to themselves that it is indeed a functional computer. But the honeymoon doesn’t last forever. The Air is the perfect computer for a very particular user, but it’s not perfect in toto. No optical drive. No FireWire. The hard drive—anemic. And while the Air’s height is essentially nonexistent, its width-depth footprint is still a bulkmeister. In a lot of book bags and backpacks, the Air is as awkward a fit as any traditional notebook.

Thus the triBook. At first glance, it’s not quite as spectacular looking as the Air, but its amazing story literally unfolds as you put it to use.

At a mere 6.75 inches deep, 10 inches wide, and about an inch tall, the triBook strikes a modest profile–it easily slips into most purses and man bags and completely disappears inside any book bag or backpack. But while portability is nice, it’s typically achieved at the expense of utility, and this is where the triBook is a triumph. When the triBook’s lid is closed, the two side screens tuck in neatly, sandwiched between the main display and the keyboard/touchpad. And when it’s time to use the machine, you lift the lid and unfold the side panels, just as if you were unfolding a cardboard box.

When the two side screens are fully unfolded to form a flat plane with the center screen, you’re left with an ultrawide landscape display of 21 diagonal inches. Indeed, not only is the triBook more portable than the Air, it also offers much more screen real estate. But have fun, play a little. The sides don’t have to pivot by a perfect 180. Cocked at a jaunty angle, each side screen can be set to form a little privacy barrier.

Now, we could claim that the triBook is Apple’s much-anticipated entry into the “netbook” market, but using the term netbook doesn’t do the machine justice. Netbooks are teeny, tiny notebooks stuffed with underpowered parts, including the most insubstantial of screens. In other words, they’re imminently portable, but really only good for surfing webpages and typing out email.

Not so with the triBook. Besides no-compromise screen real estate, the triBook comes with an 8x SuperDrive, a kick-ass hard drive, an array of I/O connectors, and a MacBook Pro-caliber CPU. All that plus a generous keyboard and an expanded multitouch trackpad that supports a whole new complement of touch gestures.

So this is it, the so-called “brick” notebook that’s been rumor-mill fodder for the last three months. An exceedingly simple but effective concept—in short, Apple to the very core.

Or is there? I don’t know, I’m not good at speculation. But I am good at making shit up. And also, making out. Ladies?

According to Trip Chowdhry, an analyst at Global Equities Research, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will announce a Zune-style mobile device during his keynote address at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, on January 7, 2009. In an article in Barron’s, Chowdhry claims that the company’s new centerpiece will combine the best features of the Zune media player with the hardware design of Danger’s mobile Sidekick, in addition to “motion enhancement features,” like an accelerometer. Basically, this means the device will come with a physical keyboard like HTC’s G1 and will likely feature a larger screen to accommodate heavy multimedia elements. And since we’re all here copying each other’s mobile phone features, we’ll be shocked if the Zune phone doesn’t feature multitouch capabilities.
Wow, way to make my new-phone boner shrivel like a century-old prune. Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft. Did you not learn anything from yesterday’s lesson? Are you trying to drop hints about a new phone or not? If so, this is how it’s done:

Steve Ballmer: Zune phone? Who said anything about a Zune phone? Psyche — gimme them digits, bitches! BA-DOW!

Remember Microsoft, I’m still available for hire. Rumor: Zune Phone Is Coming to CES 2009 [wired] Thanks to Ain, who doesn’t need a cellphone because he has two tin cans and long piece of string in his treefort.
